Teaching Modules

To support a critical, comprehensive, and grounded approach to teaching Buddhism, our learning modules are organized using the rubric of FIVE BODIES.

The Five Bodies

Social bodies in all their diversity of sex, gender, race, ethnicity, species, age, ability, state of health, safety, and function.

Aesthetic bodies of decorum, affective expression, sensory experience, beautification, mortification, ritual, and cultivation.

Extraordinary bodies of deities, dharma protectors, ghosts, bodhisattvas, siddhas, dakinis, and Buddhas.

Metaphorical bodies of law, text, image, cosmos, architecture, nature, and institution.

Practice bodies of purity, trauma, defilement, hierarchy, sexuality, yoga, meditation, medical theory, and discipline.
